Description:
Draft protesters outside the Hotel Wentworth, New Castle, NH. Slide.

About 20 protesters, young men and women from Boston-area colleges, picketed the First District Judicial Conference of Jurists held at the Hotel Wentworth. They were protesting specifically Judge Hiram Cancio, Judge of the Federal Court in San Juan, Puerto Rico, over the indictment of 96 Puerto Rican draft resisters, some of whom were sentenced to three to five years in jail. Many of the protesters felt that since Puerto Rico was not a state and offered no legal vote in Congress that the imprisoned should be released.
