She was born on the Passamaquoddy Reservation at Pleasant Point; Perry, Maine March 28, 1836, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Solmore.
When she was two years of age, her father died and Sylvia went to Old Town, Maine. After a time she was adopted by Mary Mohawk Ranco of Greenbush, who brought her up like one of her own.
In 1850 she was married to Stephen Stanislaus of Lincoln. The ceremony took place in one of the Bangor churches.
Mr. Mrs. Stanislaus came up the Penobscot River in a canoe to Mattanawcook Island in Lincoln where they lived for a great many years, after which they moved to their new home on the mainland.
