Stereograph

Date:
1870-1880
Dimensions:
Print Size: 3 x 3.125
Description:
This stereograph depicts three sisters making maple sugar candy cakes inside a building (possibly the Sugar Camp). The Sisters use a Shaker-made table with ring turning at the top of the table legs as their work station. Resting on strips of cloth on the table, one can see maple sugar strips and round tin molds with fluted sides. A wooden cutting board is at the other end of the table. A small round container and two plates are at the center of the table. The Sister to the left kneads and rolls out dough while the middle Sister pours maple syrup or candy into molds from a tin pitcher. The Sister sitting to the right cuts the dough into strips with a large pair of shears. The Sisters wear dresses with small pleats in the skirts, aprons made of printed fabric, and button-up berthas. Two sisters wear scarves over their heads; one wears a net cap. Sacks and other textiles are barely visible in the back left area. A cupboard over cupboards is in back with white chalk writing on it (19 -1 = 18). A tin horn or funnel hangs by a string to the wall.
