Negative, Film

Date:
1905-1908
Dimensions:
Print Size: 3.375 x 3.5
Description:
This black and white negative depicts a team of four oxen pulling eight logs on a large sledge along the north side of the second row of buildings at the Church Family. The oxen have heavy yokes and are chained together. Two men stand at the back. The snow is deep on the ground and there are many tracks on the right side of the frame. Behind them one can see (from left to right): North Shop, Creamery, Brethren Shop, Carriage House, and Carpenter's Shop. There is an apple tree to the north side of the Brethren's Shop. The buildings can be used to date the image: this photograph was probably taken between 1905 and 1908 because the Creamery is present (built in 1905) and the Fire House is not (built in 1908).
Provenance:
Negative was found in Brethren's Shop/Floor 1/Vault/Kensington Film Book #2/Sleeve 16 "Oxen with hay + logs" in 1983.

Original nitrate negative used to make duplicate negatives is stored in Enfield House/Floor 0/Freezer. Nitrate negatives were duplicated by NEDCC in the 1990s, using an interpositive method.
